Pink

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's also Texas Wine Month, but that's beside the point.

I really, really appreciate all of you who have donated to the Komen Foundation for my 5k run in this weekend's Race for the Cure. I've been really humbled by the people that came out of the woodwork to throw some monies toward the cause. My goal was to raise $100 on top of my $20 entry fee into the race, and I've raised $265 thanks to you fine folks out there.

Yesterday's Lubbock Avalanche Journal was completely pink in honor of the cause this month and the events going on in Lubbock this weekend. (I don't think the picture truly depicts the intense pinkness of the paper...so pretend it's the color of a giant piece of bubble gum with print on it...or maybe even Silly Puddy!)

Besides the wonderful cause of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, I'm totally and completely amazed at the marketing genius behind it all. Because of their efforts, when people see pink, they think breast cancer awareness. There's even a special night at the National Finals Rodeo in Vegas each year (and most major rodeos during the year) that's labeled "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" night.

That's where I got this handy dandy bracelet that's been on my wrist since December of last year. (Don't worry, it's totally sanitary.)

So, the race is this weekend, and I have a small confession to make: I haven't exactly been a diligent runner lately. I blame my bike...which is actually in the shop getting tuned up, so, basically, I have no excuse.

Fortunately, there will be hundreds of people there and I will be lost in the sea of pink, and my lack of adequate training will not be blatantly obvious to everyone. But, what will be obvious is my appreciation to you peeps who donated.

This run's for you...and to save the ta-tas.
