Electricity was the theme of Saturday evening. In an attempt to install a new electric outlet face plate, I managed to cause a mini electrical explosion in our house. Once we knew for sure the house wasn't going to burn down, we headed out to dinner. After filling ourselves with sour cream chicken enchiladas, we walked outside to find an awesome display of Mother Nature.
The skies were hot.
I've always wanted to photograph lightning, but I've always failed in my attempts. While still an amateur, I did come away with some fairly decent shots the other night.
Of course, I didn't have a tripod, but I was able to balance the camera on the window of my car. We got out just west of the Lubbock International Airport where the lightning was popping all around us. (I should mention any lightning pictures I got were mere luck.)
My fellow storm chasers stepped outside the car on our first stop, only to re-enter the car quickly after lightning struck within about 200 yards. The heavy rain finally forced us to leave...not to mention the risk of being electrocuted.
So we retreated back to the house to replace the outlet. It got scorched pretty good.
The next night, I turned on the hallway light and it popped and went out. I will be avoiding all downed power lines.
